אם אין אני לי, מי לי; וכשאני לעצמי, מה אני; ואם לא עכשיו, אימתיי

If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I?

And if not now, when?

Congregation Adath Israel Adult Education Committee is pleased to announce a series of classes on Pirkei Avot (פרקי אבות), "Ethics of Our Fathers."  The classes will study this classical text of ethical maxims from the Mishna -- haven’t you always wanted to study a little Mishna? The above quote is one of the famous maxims from Pirkei Avot.

Classes will be held on the 4th Sunday of every month from 9:30 AM (just after morning minyan) until 11:00 AM and will be taught by Heather Fielder.  Of course a little nosh is provided to aid in your learning and no prior knowledge of the text is required.  The classes will involve both teaching by Heather and discussion among participants.  Each class is designed to stand alone, so come to one class or come to them all!  If not now, when?

Dates of the remaining classes:  December 21, January 25, February 22, and March 22.

Location will be announced; April 26, 2009 will be held in reserve as a snow date.

The Adult Education Committee invites all to a series of lectures and discussions this year covering all aspects of Jewish life, current events, history, and environmental issues. In addition, we will be working with the Israel Connection group to develop a lecture program on the challenges facing Israel. Many of the programs are scheduled on Sunday mornings with brunch so that parents of Religious School students can easily attend.
